Yamaha Is The Sound Of The UK’s Summer Of Sport And Song… And Well Beyond.

With the busiest summer in recent years for UK’s major audio rental companies underway, Yamaha has seen significant orders for equipment which is playing a key role in delivering high profile, globally-broadcast events for both sport and music fans.
But this is no one-off - the reason Yamaha equipment has been chosen is because of its long-term return.
As well as the pivotal role played by Yamaha CL5 and M7CL digital mixing consoles at this year’s UEFA EURO 2012 football tournament, three of the UK’s biggest rental companies have made significant investments in Yamaha equipment for this year’s events.
The LS9 has been particularly popular, with Delta Sound investing in ten LS9-16s and Dimension Audio in nine LS9-32s. Britannia Row has bought three LS9-16s, two LS9-32s, two CL5s, two PM5D-RHs, five DME series digital mixing engines and 40 T5n amplifiers, bringing thecompany’s total stock of T5ns to over 100.
For Brit Row, the globally-broadcast Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert and a relentless schedule in London’s Hyde and Victoria Parks mark just two of the high profile events where Yamaha equipment is playing an essential role.
Complementing July’s globally-broadcast sporting events, the BT London Live concerts alone feature 15 consecutive nights of live entertainment in Hyde Park. Meanwhile, Hit Factory Live and the usual multi-night Wireless and Hard Rock Calling festivals also make use of the technical infrastructure.
“Although there is no Glastonbury this year, in addition to dozens of extra events - including a huge sporting occasion - that are happening in 2012, there is still a full festival season to service,” says the company’s technical head Jerry Wing.
“Yamaha equipment is used in almost all the shows we do. For example, we moved all our monitoring systems (not including amplifiers specified by the manufacturer) to Yamaha amps because we have found them to be the most reliable and powerful in the difficult environment of outdoor shows. The equipment purchased this year is for the long-term, helping to ensure that all the events we do in future years happen reliably and with the excellent audio quality that people have come to expect from Brit Row.”
“With a major sporting event taking place at venues across the country, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the usual array of annual outdoor festivals, this is a huge summer for the UK audio industry where reliability is everything,” confirms Delta operations director Jon Bell. “We needed equipment that would work flawlessly and that engineers who may not know it can learn very quickly.
“However, we can’t just have it sitting in a warehouse afterwards. Yamaha equipment delivers the reliability and ease-of-use that we need, but we know it will be in long-term demand. It’s an investment that will give us a return for many years.”
One of the many high profile events that Delta’s LS9s were used on was the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, a four hour flotilla of 1000 craft which took place between Battersea and Tower Bridges on 3rd June. They have also been used to help relay the Windsor Royal Muster to a televised audience of millions, as 2,500 military personnel paraded in honour of the Jubilee.
Dimension Audio’s summer also includes sport as well as the Reading and Leeds festivals, Hampton Court festival, Latitude and Radio One’s Big Weekend, which this year took place on Hackney Marshes.
“We use Yamaha’s larger format consoles on the biggest shows, but the LS9-32 is a great desk for a lot of events. For its size it packs in a remarkable amount of features,” says Dimension director Mark Boden. “The LS9-32 can be used for fairly complex events and the StageMix iPad app makes it even more versatile.
“Of course it is also very reliable, which means that we can service the high profile shows that we work on with the complete confidence that both our clients and audiences will enjoy an excellent event. And, most importantly, we know that we will be reliably using them for years to come.”
