Backstage Academy To Hold Clearing Open Days In August
August 2012
(UK) Vocational skills and careers centre for the entertainment industry, Backstage Academy, will be hosting two Clearing Open Days this month for those interested in finding out more about its pioneering Foundation Degree in Live Events Production.
The Open Days are scheduled for Tuesday 21st August (11am – 8pm) and Wednesday 22nd August (11am – 4pm), in preparation to receive university applicants who don’t receive an offer for their desired degree courses on A-Level results day on 16th August.
Backstage Academy will still be accepting applications for its FdA course, which begins in November this year, with an induction weekend in late September.
Visitors to the Open Days can book a slot to take an access all areas tour around the LS-Live rehearsal facility, and speak to staff about the course and life at the Academy. Staff will also be on hand to discuss its wide range of short courses in backstage skills, bespoke training packages and partnerships.
Based at the LS-Live rehearsal studio facility in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, we benefit from close industry links and access to the best in both learning and work experience opportunities; in the last 12 months our students have worked on a range of events such as the X Factor Live Tour show rehearsals, Radio 1 Hackney Weekend, Camp Bestival, Latitude, Village Green Festival, Tower Festival, TPi Awards, Feed Me set build, Dragon Force music video, The Big Session, John Barryman tour, Tinie Tempah tour and the Olympic Torch Relay.
Backstage Academy's Foundation Degree in Live Events Production is unique in its delivery, format and industry engagement. It’s designed to give you the knowledge, skills, attitude and qualifications that you will need to start your career in live events. Students will learn how to be safe in the workplace, how to engage in a range of creative processes – from design for live music, to brand awareness and dealing with a client brief – and how to apply the huge range of technology, systems and software to events and productions.
The course is delivered over 16 months instead of two years, with over three months of integrated work experience. Students will take month-long modules in a variety of disciplines from Concept Design & Presentation and Event Planning, to Lighting, Live Sound and Live Visuals, blogging their work as they go via a touchscreen tablet.
Graduates will receive not only their degree certificate, but also a wide range of industry-recognised qualifications such as the Event Safety Passport, Emergency First Aid, Working at Height, Equipment Suspension & Rigging, Stage Pyrotechnics, Pro Tools 101, Introduction to Final Cut X, Isadora Operators and WYSIWYG, to name a few.
