Robert Plant and Bandit Go Old School
14 October 2010 15:35 BST
Musical genius and legendary front man of Led Zeppelin Robert Plant decided to go old school in 2010, a sort of back to the roots endeavor. After meeting lighting designer Chris Lisle while recording in Nashville, Plant and Lisle ended up at Bandit Lites for a few days experimenting with old tried and true lighting fixtures. Plant had very definite vision of what he wanted, and it was lighting standards of PARs, lekos, fresnels and cyc lights! All of this is scattered around on a series of small stands and vertical pipes.
The show is controlled with the classic Hog 2 console and sets up in little to no time. Bandit client rep Brent Barrett worked with Lisle, Tour Manager Rick Feulner, Production Manager Gary Trew and Trinifold Management rep Nicola Powell to insure complete satisfaction of the simple but dynamic vision Robert Plant held in his head.
Plant and Lisle spent a few days at Bandit Lites Nashville facility programming the lights and completing the show before it even hit the road with his Band of Joy. Over the spring and summer the tour has hopped back and forth across the Atlantic with full service from Bandit on both sides of the pond.
Just as Plant has stretched his musical offerings over the years with his last album Raising Sand (with Alison Krauss) landing him Album and Record of the Year Grammy’s, so his lighting look took a new direction in 2010 and he stripped it all down and utilized the very basics, and with stunning results. Lisle and Plant worked together to give his show the powerful, raw, edgy look he desired with a very minimalist approach. The illumination is as much of a home run as is the all-star band.
Barrett says “Working with Robert, Chris and this team of true professionals is a wonderful experience. There is no substitute for friendly, well-seasoned people. They all make the journey such a pleasure!” The tour continues sporadically through out 2010 while Plant has just released his newest album, Band of Joy.
