Claypaky fixtures illuminate Bandra-Worli Sea Link Bridge

Claypaky Mythos 2 and B-EYE K25 fixtures bring Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli Sea Link Bridge to life.

Christmas and New Year celebrations in Mumbai, India were especially dazzling thanks to a light and laser spectacular showcasing the beauty of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, a 5.6km long, eight-lane wide bridge connecting Bandra in the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli in the south.

Spectators in India’s largest city enjoyed an extraordinary experience in which Claypaky Mythos 2 HY B-EYE K25 LED wash lights/beams/VFX projectors played a key role. The span of the bridge was illuminated with a string of lights in a changing array of colours as the towering arches and cables were bathed in rainbow hues.

“This was a benchmark holiday event in India for Christmas and New Year’s,” said Pankil Ahuja, Sales Manager for the Indian Sub Continent for AMS-Osram Claypaky. “The lighting setup and installation happened in just two days. With such a short turnaround, the Mythos 2 and B-EYE K25 fixtures were the perfect choice to enable renowned Lighting Designer, Becket Tundatil to program and control everything in a tight timeline.”

Light Craft and Sound India Pvt and Star Dimensions Pvt arranged for the equipment to be supplied to Tundatil, who quickly put his creativity to work to implement the show. Eighty Mythos 2s were positioned along the bridge span while 32 K25s highlighted the cables and arches with lighting effects. The programming station for the lights was based about 4 kms from the Sea Link.

Ahuja notes that reliability and performance were the deciding factors in Tundatil choosing the Mythos 2 and K25 fixtures. “The beam of the Mythos 2 was so powerful that it could easily be seen from kilometers away,” he said. “And the K25 was an extraordinary fixture with many effects for the lighting designer to play with.  It was incredible to see the two fixtures in action together.”

Claypaky support was required to quickly obtain spare parts for the fixtures, which had not been used during COVID-19 lockdown. Hi Tech Audio India Pvt is Claypaky’s distributor in India. The Event company was DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt.

“The holiday light show really was a benchmark in terms of the equipment used, and it garnered a lot of attention from lighting designers and lighting specifiers in the region,” Ahuja reported.
