Doughty Introduces Three New Clamps at PLASA

Doughty Engineering will unveil three new clamps at this year’s PLASA show as well as showcasing other items making its UK debut and a range of long-standing favourites.

Visitors to stand L50 will be the first to see the new Atom G Clamp. It is Doughty’s popular Atom Clamp family and has been designed in response to a customer request for a clamp that is suitable for small architectural luminaires.

Mark Chorley, Design Engineer at Doughty explained: “A considerable number of our products start life as one-offs for customers who approach us with a specific request. On this occasion we designed this clamp for a well-known lighting company that was looking for a neat and unobtrusive way to hang one of its architectural luminaires. We realised that other companies would also benefit from the design of this clamp which fits 10mm to 25mm diameter truss and has an 8mm diameter fixing hole and as such we have added it to our Atom family and look forward to receiving feedback from our customers at this year’s show.”

The Clamp Space Saver is another unique product from Doughty that will make its first appearance at PLASA. Clamps can be awkward to store and transport, with lots of wasted space in each storage box due to their size and shape. The Clamp Space Saver allows the clamp to fold down, reducing in height to just 50mm – saving 100mm of space per clamp. Made from high tensile Aluminium, it has a SWL of 100kg and has been designed so that the clamp does not have to be removed from the item it is attached to.

An upgraded Super Lightweight Clamp will also be on display and Mark is anticipating positive feedback on the changes that have been made. “We listened to a lot of our customers who said that when working at height it is often frustrating when the knob of the clamp spins off and falls to the ground. We’ve made some changes to the eyebolt and made the knob captive so that it can no longer fall off. We have also increased the SWL to 100kg from 75kg which we hope will please everyone who is already a loyal user of the clamp.”

Doughty will also bring its Floor Stand which made its debut at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt to this year’s show. Manufactured in steel, with a powder painted finish, the new floor stand is designed specifically for mounting moving lights and has a SWL of 50kg. “We’re really excited to receive feedback on this new stand – from both our existing customers who are familiar with our other stands and from customers who are new to Doughty,” concluded Mark. “The PLASA audience is unique and it will be extremely interesting to gather feedback which is vital for us as we are constantly reviewing our product designs and making changes to them in order to tick all the boxes on our customers’ wish lists.”
