Introducing The Brighter, Bolder Focus Spot 2X

The hugely popular Focus Spot Two compact moving head fixture from ADJ has been upgraded. With increased brightness thanks to a new 100W LED engine, the Focus Spot 2X model inherits all of the award-winning features of the original fixture alongside the addition of a second 6-facet prism to give lighting designers even more creative potential.

ADJ’s Focus Series is a range of LED-powered moving head luminaires designed to offer the best possible combination of brightness, feature-set and build quality in the small-to-medium class. Since its launch in 2016, the series has proven immensely popular with both lighting designers and installers looking for compact, potent and reliable fixtures for events and installations. It has also been a big hit in the mobile entertainment market, with the Focus Spot Two winning the Pro Mobile magazine award for Lighting Product of the Year in 2018.

The new Focus Spot 2X model ensures that this fixture continues to lead the way in terms of both brightness and features. Its enhanced 100W cool white LED light-source – increased from 75W – is highly efficient and offers an operational life of approximately 50,000 hours. The light output from the LED is concentrated through an advanced optical system to create a seriously impressive beam that is capable of cutting through ambient light to generate striking mid-air effects and impactful surface projections.

As an added bonus, the Focus Spot 2X is also equipped with a separate 3W UV LED. This is independently controllable and means that the fixture can also be used to bathe a stage or venue with atmosphere-enhancing ultraviolet light. The fact that the fixture offers this ‘blacklight’ effect – which causes white and fluorescent clothing and décor to glow impressively – is just one of many features of the Focus Spot 2X that set it apart from other competing moving heads.

The Focus Spot 2X’s impressive collection of beam shaping features is headlined by the addition of a second 6-facet prism. This means that users have the option of both 6-facet linear and 6-facet circular prisms for splitting up the projected beam to create broader mid-air beam effects or projected patterns. It also features motorized focus, which is the signature feature of the entire Focus Series, allowing users to ensure that projected patterns always appear sharply in focus even as the projection distance alters when the head moves from one position to another.

Separate colour and GOBO wheels allow for the Focus Spot 2X’s beam to be shaped and coloured in a plethora of different ways. The colour wheel features eight vibrant options – in addition to open white – and can also be set between adjacent positions to create eye-catching split-colour effects. The GOBO wheel features six indexed rotatable GOBOs, in addition to an open spot. They feature a good selection of detailed patterns, some ideal for creating mid-air effects and others more suited to projecting texture onto stages and backdrops or venue walls and ceilings.

While the supplied GOBOs are suitable for a variety of applications, each one can also be replaced with a custom pattern. What’s more, thanks to ADJ’s innovative EZ GOBO replacement feature, changing a GOBO only takes a matter of moments. Only a single screw needs to be removed in order to swing open the hinged case and access the wheel, which allows GOBOs to easily clip in and out. This means that changing patterns between events, or even during a changeover between performers, is a very quick and easy task.

The fixture’s beam angle is also variable between 15 and 20-degrees, which means that it can be tailored for a specific size of venue or type of show. Changing the projection angle – zooming – is easy to do and is carried out manually using the convenient recessed wheel located under the lens. Due to its compact size, the fixture is capable of extremely fast movement, with the ability to move through its wide 540-degree pan range and 230-degree tilt range extremely swiftly, if required. However, thanks to the inclusion of micro-stepping motors, it is also capable of smooth sweeping motions as well as precise positioning for static beam projection. In addition, the fixture offers pan/tilt inversion options as well as four Target modes, which limit the fixture to a specific field of movement.

The Focus Spot 2X features multiple operating modes, making it suitable for a wide variety of different applications. For an easy ‘hands off’ lightshow, the unit is pre-programmed with four dynamic built-in shows, which can be set to run at a set speed or triggered by the beat of the music. Multiple fixtures can then easily be linked using XLR cables for an easy-to-setup synchronized lightshow. For advanced control, every one of the fixture’s extensive set of features can be fully utilised through DMX. A choice between two DMX control modes is offered – 16 or 18-channel – and mode selection, as well as DMX addressing, is facilitated by an intuitive backlit LCD display screen on the front of the unit.

DMX connection is via standard 3-pin input and output sockets, while power in supplied via a secure twist-lock connection. A twist-lock power output socket is also included, which can be used to daisy chain the power supply for up to 9 Focus Spot 2X fixtures @ 120V (up to 16 units @ 230V).

With dimensions of 6.3” x 9” x 13.25”/ 237mm x 231mm x 336mm (LxWxH), and a total weight of just 16lbs / 7.4kgs, the Focus Spot 2X is incredibly compact and portable, especially considering its impressive collection of features. It also offers flexible mounting options, provided with rubber feet for floor-standing and a detachable Omega bracket to allow rigging from truss, a T-bar or a goalpost stand.

“The Focus Spot Two has proven to be extremely popular over the past three years for a wide variety of applications,” explained ADJ USA’s National Sales Manager, Alfred Gonzales. “However, we are committed to ensuring our products always represent the best of what is available on the market. This means that, as LED technology continues to develop, now was the right time to enhance the fixture with a more powerful light source. The new Focus Spot 2X model offers all the key features of the original – motorized focus, replaceable indexed rotating GOBOs, separate colour wheel and a UV LED – together with the addition of a 6-facet linear prism alongside the existing 6-facet circular prism. Together with the powerful new 100W LED engine, we are confident this means the Focus Spot 2X remains the leading moving head spot fixture in its class.”

With its potent output, expansive feature set and compact form, the Focus Spot 2X is ideal for all kinds of permanent installations, touring productions and one-off events. Perfect for use in bars, clubs, roller rinks, bowling alleys and churches, to generate dynamic lighting effects week in and week out, it is equally suited to production companies and mobile entertainers who provide lighting services for one-off events and can find themselves in a different venue every day.

The new Focus Spot 2X is available now from ADJ subsidiaries, distributors and dealers worldwide.
