22live and University of Birmingham, with support from DPA Microphones, are hosting a Mic Tech workshop, in the Bramall Music Building’s Elgar concert hall on 18 September 2024 from 10.30am to 4pm.
DPA Microphones will lead the event, sharing their expertise in microphone technology and placement. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge in an area that is both crucial for live sound reproduction, and often overlooked.
The workshop will be divided into two sessions:
Morning Session: Microphone Technology
Learn about product functionality, including different types of capsules and coverage patterns, and why specific microphones are better suited for certain applications.
Afternoon Session: Microphone Techniques
Explore the use of multiple microphones with various sources and understand how product choice and placement affect the results through listening exercises.
Participants will benefit from the newly installed d&b audiotechnik T Series PA system in the Elgar concert hall with mic inputs run through the on-site Yamaha DM7.
There will be a live band on stage to help demonstrate theory we’ll be discussing, and we will also provide a light lunch.
The Elgar Hall is located within the Bramall Music Building on the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus, and so is easy to access from central Birmingham by public transport (the campus has its own train station), with parking also available on site (pay and display). The event has limited number of places available and is completely free of charge. Please book via the Eventbrite link here – if you would like to book your place at the DPA Mic Tech Workshop.
