Alcons Audio enjoyed a very successful InfoComm 2019 in Orlando, Florida, with new pro-ribbon products as well as interactive sessions with legendary live mixing engineers Buford Jones and Robert Scovill highlighting the company’s commitment to the live touring, theatre and entertainment venue industry.
Alcons is enjoying increasing success in the US touring market, with an expanding portfolio of pro-ribbon systems for medium and large-scale venues. The company’s booth, which was very busy throughout the show, featured a preview of the LR24 mid-size pro-ribbon line array, which fills the gap between the LR18 (compact mid-size) and LR28 (large format) systems, delivering Alcons signature high fidelity sound with up to 90% less distortion than conventional line array systems.
Another new product preview highlight was the QR20 modular line-source array column, designed for applications where reduced SPL and throw requirements are matched by the same unique directivity of the larger Q system.
The updated Pro-Ribbon Immersive Experience was also a busy InfoComm highlight. As well as regular demos throughout each day with Astro Spatial Audio – showing what is possible with object-based immersive audio – a special session each day saw renowned mix engineer Buford Jones discussing the many benefits of Alcons pro-ribbon solutions for touring and live immersive mixing.
Renowned for his work with Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Faith Hill and many more, Buford was at InfoComm in his role as Alcons’ chief tour market liaison. He was joined by fellow world-renowned engineer Robert Scovill (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Rush and others), who was at the show as AVID’s senior specialist for live sound products.
The sessions featured discussions on how Alcons and AVID systems can work seamlessly together in immersive mixing environments. Buford Jones remarked, “It was a pleasure joining Robert Scovill at the Alcons Audio demo room this year. It was fun answering questions and exchanging our views on the ever-expanding immersive audio subject for the live sound industry. Robert and I share a passion for this type of distribution in live sound and it’s exciting to see Alcons Audio and Astro Spatial Audio fully support these endeavours as well. I had a great time!”
“It was great to spend some time with Buford, the Alcons folks and the attendees to our special immersive audio session,” Robert Scovill added. “It’s vitally important to demystify Immersive speaker deployment and object-based mixing for potential users. Immersive will impact every level of production design and operation, be it in installations or concert sound. I applaud everyone at Alcons Audio and Astro Spatial Audio for helping everyone get in front of this movement.”
“We were very privileged to have Buford working with us at InfoComm and for he and Robert to share their experience of the high-end touring market at the demos,” says Alcons’ North American sales manager David Rahn.
“Every year at InfoComm the interest in Alcons pro-ribbon solutions increases further. Our range of systems are designed to deliver superior quality sound at all SPLs, no matter how big the venue, and we are very pleased that our profile is growing so substantially in the US live entertainment market,” concludes Rahn.
