Vision: 2025 has revealed speakers and content for its #WeMakeTheFuture Autumn webinar series, bringing together sustainable event professionals to enable, and encourage, informed action on climate breakdown.
With the live event sector shutdown in its own COVID-19 ICU, the webinars aim to focus minds, over the next six weeks, to #BuildBackBetter and move toward zero net emissions, with inspiration from industry leaders and insights from across the creative community.
Links to register for the three webinars are open, covering core themes to inspire transformation and guests are invited to interact with the panelists:
Net Zero Emissions – 11 November
Circular Economy – 25 November
Speaking Up and Out to Lead Change – 9 December
Chiara Badiali, Knowledge & Sector Intelligence Lead at Julie’s Bicycle stated: “Usually, we’d bring the Vision: 2025 community together at The Showman’s Show – but as we all know, this year had other plans. With most respondents to our annual Industry Green survey citing, ‘case studies of how others have been successful’ and ‘opportunities to share experiences and knowledge with other organisers,’ as the most valuable forms of support Vision: 2025 can offer, these #WeMakeTheFuture webinars will create a valuable space for event organisers to come together in the midst of current uncertainties.”
The first webinar on Net Zero Emissions, 11 November from 2 to 3pm, addresses why ‘net zero’ matters and how to translate the idea meaningfully for the outdoor events sector. Hosted by Chiara Badiali, Julie’s Bicycle, in conversation with Christopher Jones, from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, about their work and recent collaboration with Massive Attack; and Chris Johnson, Industry Consultant, and architect of the award-winning sustainability strategy Shambala Festival has developed over the last decade.
The Circular Economy webinar, 25 November from 2 to 3pm, looks at how to bring circular thinking into the outdoor events industry – with Paul Schurink from Green Events Netherlands on the Green Deal Circular Festivals project, Chiara Badiali covering the what, how, and why, of the circular economy; and Patricia Yagüe, Head of Sustainability at Live Nation Europe, speaking about the projects her teams around Europe are working on to close different material loops.
Finally, Speaking up, Speaking out, Leading change, 9 December, 2 to 3pm, welcomes Frances Fox, climate justice activist with Fridays for Future and XR Youth, and co-founder of Climate Live 2021. This session will also consider how the outdoor events and festival community can be a part of broader movements such as the Music Declares Emergency’s ‘No Music on a Dead Planet’ campaign.
More speakers will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
