AB Light creates an asymmetrical spectacle for Jessica Shy

AB Light reflects on the creative process behind a special hometown show with Jessica Shy at Darius & Girėnas Stadium, Kaunas, Lithuania. TPi's Alicia Pollitt reports...

AB Light – a design firm from Lithuania – recently collaborated on a hometown stadium show featuring singer-songwriter, Jessica Shy. TPi’s Alicia Pollitt caught up with AB Light’s Kazimieras Likša to delve into the origins of the project and explore why an asymmetrical approach was pivotal in the design process.

When were you first approached to work on this project with Jessica Shy?

“The first time we worked with Jessica Shy was in 2021. For this stadium concert, discussions began in 2023. It took a year to finalise everything, but we started with the idea that the concert should represent a different side of her. The darker side of her stage presence, so it was intriguing from the start. Fundamentally, we had to create a world that would emphasise something unknown to her listeners.”

How did you achieve the final design?

“The final version of the set was not so different from the first sketch we presented a year ago at our first meeting. Somehow the whole team was on the same page from day one, and that made the whole process a lot easier.”

Did you or the team face any challenges, if so, how did you overcome them?

“This project presented a lot of challenges. However, the one that stood out from everything else, was the height of the LED screen and the whole scenography in the stadium. It took a long time to prepare and measure everything, so that it would have a balance of size and representation for the artist in front of 38,000 people.”

What was the end result?

“The main idea was asymmetry, it was done this way because of the idea of showing the artist in a different light. We wanted to surprise the audience with a new presentation of Jessica. The LED screen construction was set at a certain angle so that we would create depth in the stadium.”
