Adamson Sounds Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Celebrations

Adamson’s new S7 line array system, which has just been officially launched was deployed during Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations at McEwan Hall.

Underbelly, producers of Edinburgh’s 2018/19 Hogmanay events, curated a three-day spectacular to celebrate Europe – and Scotland’s ties to Europe.

The iconic 19th century McEwan Hall became a new venue for Hogmanay and hosted three major concerts – Symphonic Ibiza on the 30th of December and Capercaillie and Carlos Nunez with special guests on the 1st of January, which also marked the start of a new collaboration between Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival

The Warehouse Sound Services worked directly with Underbelly to provide an advanced audio set-up for the spectacular McEwan Hall events.

Opening the celebrations on the 30th of December DJ Andy Joyce (CreamEdenMinistry of SoundCreamfields) was joined by a 20-piece orchestra for Symphonic Ibiza a stirring concert of club classics. The show followed a BBC Radio 1 performance in Ibiza this summer.

For New Year’s Day, Underbelly made a small step back towards the big family events of recent years, with a free to attend First Footers Family Ceilidh in the McEwan Hall.

The Hall also hosted two concerts in the afternoon and evening.  Scottish super-group Capercaillie invited a range of guest musicians to join them to bring the sounds of the European family of nations together in an afternoon of shared cultural celebration. And in the evening international Galician folk star Carlos Nunez joined special guests from the cream of the Scottish music scene for an evening of musical exchange.

The Warehouse used Adamson’s brand new S7 line array system for the events. The system in McEwan Hall consisted of three hangs of 8 S7 line array loudspeakers with 4 S118 and 4 S119 subs all driven by Lab Gruppen 20K44 amplifiers using Lake processing. The system design was by Douglas Martin using Adamson’s proprietary design software Blueprint AV.

Douglas Martin Hire manager at The Warehouse said: “The Adamson system performed extremely well given the challenging acoustics within McEwan Hall and the diverse range of shows across the Hogmanay season. The system delivered good even coverage throughout and the audience response was amazing! The performance from this physically small system was incredible and clearly will out-perform similar sized systems currently on the market. We can’t wait to use it for further music, theatre and corporate applications!”

The S7 is a 2-way, full range line array cabinet containing 2x ND7-LM16 Kevlar Neodymium drivers (2x 16 Ω) and an NH3-8 1.4” exit compression driver (8 Ω). The critically optimized sound chamber produces a slightly curved wavefront with a nominal dispersion pattern of 100° x 12.5° (H x V).

The chamber’s efficiency allows for increased vertical dispersion without sacrificing high-frequency presence in the far field.  Patented Controlled Summation Technology further eliminates low-mid lobbing normally associated with 2-way line source systems.

As well as the McEwan Hall Adamson E15 and S10 line array systems were deployed on the Hogmanay main stage for Concert in The Gardens with headliners Franz Ferdinand and by Adamson Rental partner Live Systems Ltd on the Ceilidh Stage.
