Poland-based sound provider Gigant Sound/Letus, Europe’s largest Outline GTO inventory holder, was once again entrusted with delivering the sound for the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, one of the most prestigious music events in the country. Along with the Sopot Festival, it ranks as one of the two most important cultural events in Poland, celebrating the achievements of Polish songwriters and performers over the past year.
The festival takes place in the legendary Millennium Amphitheatre, a venue where every Polish artist aspires to perform. This iconic site has hosted the Polish Song Festival since 1963, making it one of the oldest European festivals and the largest popular music event in Poland.
Over the decades, it has seen the rise of numerous renowned Polish artists from various generations and genres, including Maryla Rodowicz, Marek Grechuta, Zbigniew Wodecki, and Justyna Steczkowska. The festival not only marks the start of summer each year with popular Polish classics but also honours new talent through the Anna Jantar Award for the best debut and the Karol Musioł Award for the best premiere.
For this year’s event, Gigant deployed an Outline-based sound reinforcement system featuring a Superfly (FOH) line array, supported by Mantas 28 enclosures and DBS 18-2 sub-bass units. The festival’s status as a cultural landmark presents significant technical challenges, particularly in ensuring high-quality sound throughout the expansive open-air venue.
Gigant Sound/Letus, a leading name in Poland’s live-sound industry, rose to the occasion, delivering an exceptional audio experience that was widely praised within the live-production community. This year’s setup ensured remarkable sound clarity, consistent coverage, and precision, further reinforcing Gigant’s reputation for excellence.
The entire system was managed by Outline’s (patented) FPGA-based Newton processor, a versatile and powerful solution increasingly favoured in major Western productions for its ability to handle complex audio setups across multiple brands, not just Outline loudspeakers. The front-of-house mixing system relied on DiGiCo consoles, with orchestral elements and key vocals mixed on a DiGiCo SD5 Quantum, while side acts and their lead vocals were handled by DiGiCo SD12 consoles.
Jerzy Taborowski, CEO of Gigant Sound/Letus, shared his thoughts on the project: “Reflecting on our work at the festival, I was particularly impressed with the Outline Superfly system. Its smooth, ‘hi-fi’ tonality is akin to studio monitoring, offering exceptionally even coverage with seamless transitions between hangs. The system’s ‘forward voicing’ — a signature of Outline products — proves ideal for both arena-sized and smaller outdoor shows, ensuring that the mix reaches every corner of the venue. Together with the Mantas enclosures and DBS 18-2 subs, we achieved clarity and precision across all performances. The positive feedback from the festival organisers and technical teams was especially rewarding, given the cultural significance of the Opole Festival.”
The National Festival of Polish Song in Opole remains a cultural highlight in Poland, offering a platform for the nation’s most esteemed musicians. This year’s deployment of the Outline sound system by Gigant significantly enhanced the festival experience, delivering vivid, spacious audio that complemented the diverse performances. Although Gigant has participated in this prestigious event many times, this year’s implementation set a new benchmark, showcasing their expertise in handling the demands of extensive productions with both artistry and precision.
