NST Audio unveils the DM88 system processor

NST Audio introduces the DM88 to the market.

“It pretty much is everything everywhere, all at once, if you want it to be!” quipped Waring Hayes, NST Audio’s Technical Brand Manager. “With the new DM88, we’ve created the most versatile, technically advanced system processor, but still kept its operation straightforward. And of course, being a NST product, it still sounds flawless.”

Equally suited to FOH duties as a highly versatile system manager and console switcher, or installed as the hub of a complex installation system, the DM88 can control and process it all, simply and capably.

The DM88 incorporates not only the best quality audio conversion and DSP but also new levels of flexibility for routing and processing. Featuring 16 Dante, eight analogue and eight AES inputs, these are all available to be matrixed to one of 16 processing channels, optimised for either general input processing or for more specialised output speaker processing.

General input processing features multiple layers of parametric EQ with a library of selectable behaviours, three bands of dynamic EQ, compression, high-pass filter plus delay and phase reverse.

Specialised output processing includes 48dB/Oct high and low-pass filters, multiple EQ layers, FIR filtering, and a new two-way mode limiter, designed for use with passive 2-way speaker boxes. By allowing any source to be directly selected at any output, and incorporating a three-level failover system, the DM88 can perform format conversion and break-in/break-out duties. This is in addition to the 16 channels of individual signal processing and routing.

Our D-Net control software for PC, Mac and iPad gives you complete control over Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The latest release of D-Net incorporates advanced features that unlock the capabilities of the DM88. These include speaker module libraries for fast configuration, and powerful grouping and linking control to work with EQ layers, levels, and delays across multiple devices on the network.

“Imagine you need to get some analogue channels onto Dante but don’t want to waste a processor for that duty, or use a dubious quality break-in,” suggested Hayes. “Let the DM88 do that for you – it can be doing all your speaker processing, sending that out on Dante too, maybe a bit of compression and DEQ on a couple of those input channels that you aren’t even using in this device and they go back out on analogue, while your ultra-clean band splits are EQ’d and protected and out on AES as a back-up. You only need to look at the signal routing diagram to start dreaming up other scenarios where a DM88 can make things simpler and better. You really can get everything everywhere and all at once!”
