Shure Launches Mic Match Quiz

Shure teams up with artists Jacob Collier, Amber Liu, and others to help aspiring musicians elevate their voices with Mic Match quiz.

Selecting the right microphone can be intimidating. With countless options available — dynamic or condenser, single application or multi-purpose, end or side-address — it’s easy to be overwhelmed. To make it easier, Shure has created a Mic Match quiz to help vocalists select the correct microphone for their specific application.

Shure is partnering with several artists who have already found their perfect mic match. Artists will share insights on why this particular vocal microphone is right for them via their social media channels. Select artists include Jacob Collier, Amber Liu, and more.

Developed by Shure sound engineers, the multiple choice Mic Match quiz enables artists to discover the best microphone to help address their needs. Each question highlights the most important factors to consider when choosing a microphone and presents them in an easy way. Questions range from ‘I plan to record my next song… A) in a studio B) on-the-go C) at home’ to ‘My vocals are… A) loud and powerful B) soft and subtle.’ The multi-step quiz addresses vocalist priorities in the moment and chooses the best microphone for their environment.

“Choosing the right microphone is an important first step for all musicians,” said Paul Crognale, Senior Manager of Musician and Consumer Audio Marketing at Shure. “We value the investment and hope to ease the worry when selecting professional audio gear. From the beginning, Shure has supported artists at every stage of their journey, providing education and guidance along the way.”

Additional video content educates vocalists with informative tips beyond selecting the correct microphone. Shure partnered with LANDR, the online platform for music production, collaboration, and distribution, to create a five-part, short video series. The series is hosted by musicians Isabelle Banos, Lorenzo Burroughs aka Lxgend, and Peggy Hogan aka Hua Li, and addresses topics ranging from how to produce a vocal session to creative vocal processing. The co-branded content examines why the right audio gear is crucial to recording high-quality vocals. Episodes include: ‘How To Choose A Mic’, ‘Recording Better Vocals’, ‘How To Record A Singer’, ‘How To Mix Vocals’, and ‘Getting Creative With Vocal Processing’.

“Music education, and helping musicians find their best sound is a huge part of LANDR’s DNA. We’re super excited to be partnering with a best-in-class player like Shure on a project like this,” said Adam Di Stefano, CMO at LANDR.

Release of a special Vocals Edition of LOUDER magazine, the in-house Shure publication for musicians, coincides to offer even more tips, tricks, and insights for singers. The issue includes an essay by legendary songsmith John Grant on language and songwriting, an exclusive interview with a cappella musician Madison McFerrin and practical steps on “how to improve your performance.”

With decades of experience and expertise, Shure aims to be a trustworthy companion to all vocalists, while providing microphones with tried and true performance and offering guidance along the way. For more information and to take the Shure Mic Match Quiz, visit: www.shure.com/YourVoice.
