Over 170 Adamson loudspeakers were deployed for three days of spectacular events for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay.
Marking the 27th edition of the world’s best New Year Party, the three-day festival combined much loved Scottish traditions with the very best contemporary artists and acts from across the world in Edinburgh, the home of Hogmanay.
Working directly with Dave Watson and Scottie McKean from producers Underbelly, The Warehouse designed an Adamson system for Hogmanay in the Gardens headlined by Mark Ronson, the Waverley Stage headlined by Marc Almond and McEwan Hall’s three day celebrations with Symphonic Ibiza, Eddi Reader and Ronnie Scott’s Big Band. In addition Adamson partner Live Systems Ltd provided the system for Ceilidh under the Castle. Power, clarity and perfect coverage across the varied dynamics of each event was critical.
Across the whole event, 170 Adamson loudspeakers were used which included E15, S10, S7 line array loudspeakers, E119, S119 and S118 sub bass loudspeakers, all powered by Lab Gruppen PLM 20K44 and 12K44 amplifiers running Lake Processing. Adamson’s new CS7P point source loudspeakers where used for front fills.
This year’s Hogmanay theme, Be Together, was celebrated by bringing together tens of thousands of friends old and new to share in a warm and welcoming night of friendship creating a fantastic atmosphere across the Street Party hosted by Johnnie Walker.
At Hogmanay in the Gardens Mark Ronson dazzled the partygoers with some of the best tracks of the decade in a full throttle countdown to the midnight fireworks. Daniel Merriweather joined him for Stop Me and Shallow. Rudimental DJ played a banging set of their biggest, old skool hits and Mungo’s Hi Fi kicked off the night.
After teaser fireworks on the hour, this year’s midnight moment saw almost 16,000 shots and hundreds of thousands of stars in every known firework colour flood into the clear night sky. Titanium Fireworks had worked with Mark Ronson to create the display set to a medley of some of his greatest hits including Uptown Funk feat. Bruno Mars, Stop Me with Daniel Merriweather, Bang Bang Bang with The Business Intl, Nothing Breaks Like A Heart and Electricity.
Headlining the Waverley Stage, the charismatic Marc Almond played his greatest hits. Opening the Waverley Stage was Keir Gibson, The Ninth Wave brought the glam and after the bells Porkpie put on a brassy and brilliant show.
Ceilidh under the Castle returned to what is arguably the best possible ceilidh location in the world in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle with Scotland’s best ceilidh bands – Sleekit Beasties, Skyte! and Cool Ceol Ceilidh Band.
The iconic 19th century McEwan Hall played a starring role throughout Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations and The Warehouse worked directly with Underbelly to provide an advanced audio set-up for the each spectacular events.
Symphonic Ibiza returned to open proceedings on the 30th December as DJ Andy Joyce led the 20-piece Scottish Pops Orchestra through a stirring rendition of club anthems from the famous party island.
Continuing the celebration in proper big band style on Hogmanay was Ronnie Scott’s Big Band in Concert featuring Liane Carroll, one of the UK’s finest jazz singers. McEwan Hall also played host to Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Official Afterparty, with a late-night set from international music producer and DJ Judge Jules.
And on the 1st of January in Association Celtic Connections Edinburgh’s Hogmanay presented a special New Year’s Day concert with Eddi Reader who marks forty years in music with a wide repertoire of pop, folk and jazz.
