Shure supported West Herts College students at an educational day of seminars and performances at Watford Colosseum. Ahead of Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes third album release earlier this month, the band decided to support the college in their hometown with a masterclass and performance at the event. The day consisted of three seminars. The first was a production talk with Frank and Dean from the Rattlesnakes on their approach to recording their third album with Cam Blackwood. The second talk was with the band road crew and featured the bands tour manager Ian Dowdell, guitar teach, Elliot Russell and…

Allen & Heath’s dLive Digital Mixing System played its part at Coachella 2019 festival, supporting buzz-worthy sets by breakout pop artist Billie Eilish and Kanye West’s special Easter Sunday Service. Sound Image supplied a pair of S5000 Control Surfaces and DM64 MixRacks to handle both front of house and monitor duties as the teen superstar wooed her fans in two packed and highly energetic shows. There is a brand new player in the audio rental sector. With a focus on the corporate and special events markets, Audio Evolution is the brainchild of the leadership team at live events video specialist Pixl Evolution and will operate as a sister company from the latter’s Hertfordshire HQ. The creation of Audio Evolution was in part a response to regular requests from Pixl Evolution’s clients for high-end, bespoke audio to accompany video provision. Prompted by this demand, further scoping of the market revealed a clear space for a high-quality audio provider specifically aligned towards the corporate sector. A £1.1million…
For the final three concerts of Chou’s 120-date The Invincible 2 World Tour, The Asian King of Pop, as he’s known to the Western media, played two nights in London before deploying the Britannia Row rig for a final show at Paris’ Accor Arena. These three shows were promoted by Europe’s leading Asian concert promoter, Magic-Sound Entertainment. https://issuu.com/mondiale/docs/tpijune19_digital_issuu/16 Photos: Magic-Sound UK www.britanniarow.com
Sven Väth is widely regarded as the leader of the techno revolution. The German DJ and producer emerged from the early-1980s Frankfurt underground and pioneered an electronic music uprising – with both Germany and Ibiza being his beat-fuelled playgrounds. https://issuu.com/mondiale/docs/tpijune19_digital_issuu/20 Photos: Ry Hallada @rxyz www.cocoon.net www.forceproduction.eu

First Aid Kit’s latest sold-out show at Ericsson Globe marked the Swedish debut of the new d&b KSL System, on its first outing from concert audio supplier, Soundforce Scandinavia, which purchased KSL from Arva Trading. Soundforce’s System Tech, Anders Molund, had an existing relationship with the group, touring with them through Scandinavia: “The band’s production wanted to use the SL-Series, and we’d just taken delivery of the KSL System – it was like a Christmas gift. – so I suggested we use a GSL, KSL and SL-SUB System for the Globe gig.” https://issuu.com/mondiale/docs/tpijune19_digital_issuu/8 Photos: Timothy Gottlieb www.firstaidkitband.com www.soundforce.se www.dbaudio.com
Even back in 1994, when I first documented a Take That show, there were hints of a vision far beyond that of your average chart-topping boy band. Fast-forward a quarter of a century and the group’s no-filler live set list of 25 songs perfectly encapsulates their glittering journey as an 11m revolving Odyssey Sphere dominates the stage. Covered with 2,750 LED panels emitting super-rich content from Luke Halls Studio, this curious orb has introduced concert audiences to their first-ever truly three-dimensional video experience, according to its designers. https://issuu.com/mondiale/docs/tpijune19_digital_issuu/24 Photos: Stufish, Sarah Womack, Mark Cunningham and David Wolstenholme. www.takethat.com www.stufish.com www.brilliantstages.com…
When it comes to Hugh Jackman, many have their own individual preconceptions of his persona. I, for one, am more accustomed to seeing him with adamantium claws protruding from his fists than on stage breaking into a musical number. I was intrigued to see what the 50-year old – yes, 50 – actor could produce with a two-hour set promising insight and entertainment. It was night three of an already extremely well-received tour beginning at The SSE Hydro Arena. As he tap-danced to Thunderstruck, having reprised his role as Jean Valjean from Les Misérables and performed an entire segment as…
The Gods of Rap tour marked significant milestones of De La Soul, Public Enemy and Wu-Tang Clan’s sonic careers. Collectively, all three American hip-hop troupes are recognised for their innovative beats, clever lyricism, diverse personalities, and now – after quickly becoming one of the most sought-after tickets of 2019 – a technologically-advanced touring production to match. https://issuu.com/mondiale/docs/tpijune19_digital_issuu/50 Photos: TPi, Andrew Benge and Luke Dyson. www.godsofrap.com www.touringsolutions.com www.brilliantstages.com www.ls-live.com www.lcr-rental.com www.majortom.cc www.studiocare.com www.mandylights.com www.moreeyes.co.uk www.flybynite.co.uk www.ontheruntouring.co.uk www.bittersweetcatering.co.uk
In an age of discontent, The Specials would be forgiven for resting on their veteran ska rooted laurels, and peddling tried and tested 40th-anniversary touring conventions. However, they are far from a revival act. The band’s latest genre-spanning record, Encore, is the group’s first new material with vocalist Terry Hall since 1981’s anthemic Ghost Town single. The album marks a welcome return to the public consciousness, addressing Brexit, austerity, Black Lives Matter and mental health – crafted with the panache and signature rock steady beats synonymous with the Coventry outfit. The live offering also featured a DJ set by Saffiyah Khan,…
Shure re-emphasised its focus on the theatre audience by unveiling the new campaign – This Is The Moment – along with other activities at the ABTT show in London. In theatre production, there are hundreds of thousands of minutes that lead to that one moment when the curtain rises on a performance. Shure understands all the effort that goes into that one moment and has developed the “This Is The Moment” campaign to celebrate the tremendous behind-the-scenes efforts that make theatre productions possible. Shure products have been used in some of the biggest theatre performances on stage including West End…

Following last year’s success, in 2019 the RDS Stadium in Genoa (Italy) once again hosted Elrow, the event launched in Barcelona revolutionized the concept of partying and, with its characteristic crazy explosion of colours and masks, in a few years has become one of the most famous events of its type in the world, thanks to a series of tours that have taken it to Ibiza, throughout Europe, America, South Africa and soon in China, chalking up incredible attendance figures. Behind the consoles, there were some of the most popular DJs of the moment: Dennis Ferrer, Marc Maya, Milkborg, Toni…

With less than 30 hours from load-in to showtime in a 600-capacity theatre, Orbital Sound’s Mike Thacker needed true plug-and-play functionality from his audio production package of Yamaha control systems and Nexo GEO M10 mid-size line array. Thacker is Orbital Sound’s Head of Education, commissioned to creatively design and facilitate the audio systems for a production of Starlight Express by the Coventry Youth Operetta Group. The assignment was a challenging one. The 65 young artistes of the YOG, many of them wearing radio mics, would be performing on roller-skates, dancing and singing on a track that encircled the stalls of…
Jason Aldean’s Ride All Night tour immerses fans in what can best be described as a theatrical experience. As the intro music builds, a larger-than-life silhouetted figure of the star appears out of nowhere on an upstage video surface and walks toward the audience. Just as suddenly, blinding lights illuminate the crowd. Then, as the concert is about to begin in earnest, a diamond-shaped screen rises from the stage deck, making the band fully visible. This was exactly the type of dramatic scene that Lighting Designers Nick Whitehouse and Dom Smith and Creative Producer Kelly Sticksel of Fireplay envisioned when…
