Backstage Academy are set to go on tour to encourage students to consider a job in live events. The Backstage Academy team started touring England and Wales from 22 January 2018, to talk to students about the roles available in the live events sector and the routes that can be taken to realise them.
A Beat the Street tour bus will visit schools and venues up and down the country. Allowing students to spend time on the tour bus to gain a glimpse of life on the road; including a hands-on approach to learning about the skills required to safely load-in and load-out of a venue.
Glen Rowe, Managing Director at Backstage Academy, said: “We are really excited about getting out to schools and colleges and showing them what a great industry this is. I’ve sustained a career in tour management for over twenty years and am now on the lookout for young talent to take over the reins. There are so many opportunities for people to develop careers in live events we just need to go out there and show them how to do it.”
Shure, D&B, audiotechnik, VER, A.C. Lighting and Melody VR are among the partners and professional sponsors supporting the tour, alongside Beat the Street who generously donated the tour bus. Jörg Philipp, Owner and Founder of Beat the Street, stated: “I’m very pleased to be able to support this initiative. Having a job that takes you around the world on one of our busses is a wonderful thing. I hope this tour will inspire more people to consider joining our wonderful industry.”
The Backstage Academy tour run from January 22-9 February 2018; starting in Wakefield, visiting Leeds, Selby, York, Chesterfield, Lincoln, Gateshead, Liverpool, Truro, Paignton, Glastonbury, Swansea, Cardiff, Croydon, Cobham, Battersea, Purfleet and Southampton along the way.
