Independent Venue Week 2021 announces a full schedule for its eighth edition, which will take place next week from Monday 25 January to Sunday 31 January. This year will be digital to prioritise the health and well-being of the community, featuring over 141 virtual events taking place.
Over 110 venues across the UK have signed up to take part playing host to performances, ‘In Conversation’ interviews, panel discussions with industry professionals, the official IVW Quiz hosted by Duglas Stewart of BMX Bandits and the online premiere screening of ‘On The Road with Independent Venue Week’, with a live Q&A. Music Feeds Festival is the latest official partnership for the week bringing a massive line-up of performances from the likes of Sam Smith, Liam Gallagher, Fontaines D.C + many more. Gruff Rhys, Independent Venue Week 2021’s Welsh ambassador has specially curated Ara Deg, an online festival streamed from Neuadd Ogwen, Bethesda featuring performances from artists Gruff Rhys, Brìghde Chaimbeul, N’famady Kouyate, Cerys Hafana, Rhodri Davies.
Steve Lamacq dedicates his show to IVW playing music picked by indie venues such as The Joiners, Southampton and accompanied by messages from key people in the scene, as well as, an interview and live performance from IVW’s 2021 ambassador, Arlo Parks. Friday will also mark the date of Arlo’s debut album release – Collapsed in Sunbeams.
From Monday to Sunday, a massive line-up of shows will be streamed from right across the UK, hosted by different independent venues featuring Alasdair Roberts Trio / The Glad Cafe, Glasgow, eädyth / Cardiff MADE, Cardiff, Connor Fyfe + Emily Rhodes / Bootleg Social, Blackpool, Cowgirl / Fulford Arms, York, Gerry Lyons / Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow, Lau. ra / Hot Box Live Events – Chelmsford, New Pagans / Oh Yeah Centre, Belfast, New Model Army / The Mill, Bradford, Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) / The John Peel Centre, Stowmarket, Natalie McCool + Pixey at the brand new music venue – Future Yard, Birkenhead + much much more.
The Boileroom, Guildford stages a full week of happenings including performances from Never Not Nothing, Guildford Jazz present Trish Clowes, a showing of ‘Screening The Venues That Changed Everything’ + ‘In Conversation’ interviews – see here.
Frank Turner will play an ‘all request’ YouTube solo show in support to save some of the UK’s favourite indie venues – Boom, Leeds, and The Waterloo, Blackpool, while Young Knives will be performing a special set to support The Adelphi, Hull. Very special streams will from IDLES and Bombay Bicycle Club will also feature as part of the week. Independent Venue Week 2021 is represented by four ambassadors – Arlo Parks, Gruff Rhys / Wales, Jordan Adetunji / N.Ireland, and Amy Macdonald / Scotland and is gratefully funded by a longstanding partnership with Arts Council England along with support from DCMS as part of their £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund program, Creative Scotland, See Tickets, Yamaha, Fred Perry and PPL. The F List and loadin.com are also partners in kind this year. It is the first time See Tickets has been the official ticketing partner but they have long championed independent venues across the UK.
