Next Robe Generation (NRG) is a new initiative launched by Robe UK, offering future lighting professionals the chance to meet other like-minded individuals and access a whole range of interactive social networking and educational opportunities.
It will encompass forums for discussion and the exchange of ideas, product open days and mentoring by leading practitioners and activists in the dynamic world of performance lighting and visuals … among many other activities.
Robe is currently working with six participating universities and colleges – RADA, Rose Bruford, Central School of Speech & Drama, LAMDA, Mountview and the University of South Wales – with the intention of widening the list and reach as the NRG concept flourishes and engages.
Anyone in full time industry related studies or who has graduated from a relevant course within the last two years can join NRG.
The NRG community currently involves students, lecturers and heads of department at – and associated with – these various academies, and is open to anyone interested in or inspired by a career in the entertainment production industry.
Monthly social networking meetings are already taking place where information and technical and creative experiences are shared, discussed and debated. Each meeting also includes the input of a known lighting / visuals designer bringing new dimensions, additional buzz and extending the range of topics in a lively and invigorating environment.
Robe UK also runs regular structured ‘open day’ product presentations for lighting students nationwide, highlighting topics like the advantages of LED technology and its different applications – an activity that will be adapted to provide relevant events tailored to the NRG community.
Mick Hannaford, MD of Robe UK stated: “The NRG community will encourage interaction and face-to-face conversations opening up and generating realistic real-life opportunities for those who are serious about pursuing an industry career.”
