For the better part of a year, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have played to fans worldwide with back-to-back festival and arena tours promoting their album, The Getaway. Premier Global Production in Nashville provided a large complement of Claypaky A.leda B-EYE K20 fixtures and grandMA consoles for the tours along with Eurotruss for the festival run.
For the festival tour, Lighting Designer Scott Holthaus deployed 44 B-EYE K20s. “I put them radiating from the vertically-hung circle pods and 40-foot half-arc,” he explained. “For outside shows without any smoke or haze, it is important for the audience to see the source. Having overhead lighting is a mistake in that situation, so I made sure 90 percent of the show was upstage and pointed at the audience through the band.”
Premier Global Production also supplied the festival run with four custom-made circles of Eurotruss with 12ft inside diameters that framed the band’s LED wall.
The festival tour and world tour feature three grandMA2 full-size consoles; one controls lighting, one controls video and the third is a shared back up. The current tour has increased the number of NPUs on hand from three to four.
Alongside Holthaus on the tour is Video Director Leif Dixon, whilst Anthony Kordyjaka is Design Manager at Premier Global Production. A.C.T Lighting distributes the Claypaky fixtures, Eurotruss and MA Lighting products in North America.
