Lightware Visual Engineering has announced its partnership with Lara Vafiadis (This Girl Rows) as part of the company’s overall efforts to support young talents, regardless of the field of science.
On 12 December 2022, British Sales Manager, Lara Vafiadis will row solo and unsupported 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, to help charities Plan UK, Prostate Cancer UK and Our Only World in raising £25,000 each. She will be rowing with her boat from the Canary Islands, Spain, to the English Harbour in Antigua and Barbuda.
The annual race of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge begins in early December this year, with up to 30 teams participating from around the world. Teams from across the globe gather in the race village San Sebastián in La Gomera, Canary Islands.
Rowing solo across the world’s second largest ocean will push Lara to her physical and mental limits – there is a reason why more people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed across the Atlantic Ocean. She wants to show women and girls that it is possible to achieve anything when we believe in ourselves. At the same time, she will dedicate this experience to her father, who passed away on 14 September 2022.
“Lightware will soon be 25 years old, and looking back on this quarter of a century, we can say that perseverance, steadfastness, and faith carried us forward in difficult times, so we respect Lara’s commitment to support the chosen charities with this amazing adventure, which will certainly not be an easy one,” said Lightware CEO, Gergely Vida.
